Granted, I don't have a saber yet, but as I'll likely have to get parent approval when I do eventually go to purchase one, having others in the area I could spar with would probably be in my favor.

Believe me, I feel your frustrations... the map shows 6 people within 20 minutes of me, none of them are active on the boards anymore and there is no other contact info for them. I'd love to get a sabering group together from time to time. There is a local 501st group, but I don't have that kind of costuming money to get in with them.

There is a way. Click "Search", "Advanced Search" and then go to the bottom. There you click on "Choose a board" and de-select all boards except for the one you want to search. It's not exactly the same, but still far better than the normal search function...
