I've never really tried it on a saber, but... if you can find a rusty dusty dirty object, rub shake or bang the rust dirt etc off of it and onto your saber. In theory, then all you'd need to do is find some way of sealing it on there that wouldn't be shiny enough to ruin the effect.

I weathered my saber using some Rustoleum paint. As you keep going, you will figure out your own technique. Just get used to taking a lot of it off and getting a smearing thing going on. Ex: Get a paintbrush and smear it with the black paint, followed by using a q-tip,cloth, or napkin to smear it and balance it out. If you want to, try different paints to get a different effect. Look for something you like off the internet to model you idea of off and go from there.
