No other dood, 1st mentions of the pikes lances was very early on. IE orginally called force pikes. they were far from an actual pike size

I did not realize my project was going to include a debate of what I call my personal saber. Ok, let me be clear...I have zero interest in an internet argument...if my calling it a light naginata offends you then I am sorry...I did not intend to emulate a tool from the EU material or the canon data...I just made a long handled saber. I was working on how to continue my vision of a Jedi who could control a situation and not have to kill if another way could be found. Debates are welcome and great if they serve a purpose. I appreciate the data that a similar weapon existed in some measure within the Star Wars universe...but why make a point to place a name on something that I just put together. If I said it was supposed to be an Imperial Lightpike then I would stand by for input about the shape, color, size, etc. But this was not the case. Mine was built to be a long handled lightsaber, used as a long handled sword...much like the naginata...hence light naginata http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Long-handle_lightsaber Yes a saber blade on a long stick could be called a light pike...but the pike is noted to be nearly as long as the wielder was tall...mine was noted to be shorter right off the bat...so not a light pike http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Lightsaber_pikeYes a saber blade on the end of a cane could be brought up also, but again the form and length is off...not a light cane http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Tera_Sinube%27s_lightsaberSo if we can move forward, I appreciate the extra data like the light pike which I had not considered up to that point...but please do not waste any more thoughts to rename or remind me that my project should be called something else. I am sure it is the blazing sun that has burned my ass today, but I find this sort of meaningless debate annoying. I welcome any thoughts, positive or negative, but if they could be related to the project it would be even more welcome.

there is just a little confusion cause because whether it be pike, naginat, or spear they all have similar design when you incorporate their structure with a lightsaber but as from what i can tell, Lucien spear is similar to length as lightsaber pike but his lightsaber blade is smaller, where as relmeob naginata looks to be about 1 ft shorter on staff section and 1ft shorter in blade length, so i do see the differences, his naginata is kinda an inbetween size from what i can tell hence it is not a spear or pike, if am wrong on these differences plz let me know but back to topic it looks good and wrap looks good to bad you ran out of material i am looking forward to seeing the finished project

Yep I checked with him and my light naginata or long handled saber is a full foot and a half shorter than his light spear, but he also has a light naginata that has not been featured yet

I think this looks pretty amazing Rel. I know I wouldn't be able to wield it simply because I'm not trained, and being untrained means clumsy lol. I imagine that would be incredible in action!

I was going through some basic techniques today with my blade at 18" (I can adjust it from 34" to 0") in an open field with some high black eyed susans (huge daisies...the flowers are freakishly large...some 4' high).
I was using the daisy heads as targets with 360* arc swings, retreating swings, 180* targets (front then rear), etc.
It all felt perfect.
I will work out a typical bb level form with it and get it on video...not for a bit, but sooner than later.

I just had a thought in regards to the idea of this being a naginata, yari, light spear, long handled lightsaber (or whatever the builder wants to call it, it does look cool !, I had an idea to throw out to you for a different styled blade design that would look more & be shaped as that of a naginata. I was playing with the idea of a master chief energy sword & after researching materials, I found that 1 piece of clear polycarbonate could easily be cut, ground & sanded into the blade shape you desire, , I envision a 1/2" thick piece of stock with a mild sand-blast for final finish with a satin clear coat (it would light up very well & look l ike a blade of fire!) for the blade holder section, I would use 2 small pieces of 1/4 polycarb, use resin to adhere them & the sand them down to a round barrel to slide into the blade holder. Wow, just did a bit of rambling, I might just try this

I use polycarbonate sheeting quite alot, and I can tell you, DO NOT make a blade from 1/2" polycarb. The weight stacks up quite quickly, you'll be quite surprised just how much heavier it is then normal polycarb tube blades. Even just a two foot, 2 inch thick curved blade will easily weight twice or three times as much as a normal saber blade. 1/4" polycarb would be alot better, thought still not really that good. It would look amazing, but I wouldn't use it for dueling, as such a smaller edge would kill to be hit by, and would be difficult to stop and redirect, even with the long hilted design. I'm a staff/spear user by nature (from martial arts), and love the hilt design you've started so far, it looks really nice. I'm in the process of making a modular saberstaff/naginata conversion, but it's a long way off from being finished. Can't wait to see some more progress

The cord design is far too simple...kind of annoying actually...it is coming off in just a few minutes...I will wait for my flat wrap to get in. I am going to start painting. First Krylon Fusion for plastics as a base coat Then black ink over all of it, wiping off excess, letting it dry, seal with Krylon Clear After that I am not sure...I will wait for the look and see what comes to me.

Thanks for the positive input...if you have ever used a longer weapon it does feel different but for me at least, better. The extra comfort level that comes from the reach option has its rewards, worth trying if you have not.

I would love to try something like this out for my defensive Soresu style.... it would be a very interesting dynamic, seeing as I prefer shorter weapons (due to my extensive use of a gladius trainer).
