Hey guys, I know nothing about sabers so please excuse me for my lack of knowledge. I want to get a grab bag but I also want sound, is there any way I can add sound to one after I bought it or would I be better off buying a saber with sound? My limits about $100 with shipping.
Thank you, Trevor

Welcome to the forums! Sorry to say, you can't really get a saber with sound for -$100. You could get a grab bag and hope it's a V3 so that you could send it back for sound later, or you could buy a V3 without sound and add it later. It could cost under $100 dollars to get a sound-compatible saber without sound, but sending it back in would be costly. Also, be sure you post an acknowledgement in the Rules thread. You're supposed to do that before you post anywhere. I dont believe so From what Ive gathered all the grab bags are old V1 and V2 models and arnt sound capable
Sorry, but that is not true. Several people have gotten DSI V3s and Liberator V3s.

Trevor, welcome to the forum. Very sound advice coming from the above posters. You have several options for $100. You can get a grab bag or one of the lower end sabers without sound. Save some more money, and you could get an econo sound board and follow the video posted by Big Andy about upgrading your saber to sound. If you want Obsidian Sound, I am currently do a video diary of my Overlord from stunt to sound upgrade that you could follow as well to install the sound yourself. Keep in mind that if you do it yourself, you have zero warranty on the electronics.

Usually an additional $100-$150 depending on what you purchase and what extras you add.

Haha maybe I don't need sound that bad. Would I be wasting my money buying a force FX?

as stated by bluespike you can take an FX saber and use its sound board to upgrade your Ultra saber to economy (budget/cheaper option) sound. If you are going to spend $100 on just one saber and you absolutely want sound, i guess an FX would be ok, but if you want it to be super bright, super durable, and super awesome, get an ultrasaber. as you can see in my signature, I have 4 hilts (the staff has two hilts) and none have sound. this has not diminished the level of fun I have had with them. You see for me, I wanted to be able to play with several people and include my littler cousins, ranging in ages and wanted more sabers rather than one or two with all the bells and whistles, but in the future i'll be getting one with sound just cuz that is also very awesome.

I would suggest starting with an Ultrasaber without sound. Look through the reviews section to see what others liked or didn't like. If I were on a tighter budget and was going to buy my very first saber that I could later convert to sound, I would choose the Initiate V3 with standard 32" blade and standard setup. This is the best seller of all time for Ultrasabers. You can even choose one of the premium colors or one of the forum exclusive colors for 5-10 dollars more. Plus shipping and blade wrench and blade plug, you will stay under $100 dollars. Once you save some more, you can upgrade your saber (and forum members will talk you through it if you have the soldering equipment) to rechargeable batteries, buckpuck, sound and can do all of this on a budget over time. You can have plenty of time to do research on here and see how others have customized their sabers and made stands on a budget as well.

I want to note that the last time I checked you could also send your saber back and have the professionals add obsidian sound at a later time if you get a V3. I could be wrong though as I haven't checked for quite some time on this matter.

I mentioned that option (and how it would put him way over his budget).

Way back when I looked into it (before Christmas) it was about 125$ plus shipping both ways. If your budget is only 100$ then get a V3. Even though you can't get sound right away, and it IS more expensive than buying it outright, you'll have a great saber with almost unlimited capabilities when it comes to upgrading.
