I sent an email to emory asking if he could switch one of the blades from a uehg to a hg. He responded saying he was able to grab it before it shipped and make the switch and that it would ship tomorrow (today). I sprang for the priority overnight shipping so i should get it tomorrow. I will be recording the reveal as soon as i get home from work. Cant wait to show my new saber off!

Nice. Yeah. You'll love SRD in a regular Heavy Grade blade. Looks awesome. Unless you meat for your FO blade then I wouldn't know. Just something about FO doesn't really appeal to me. Guess I'll give it a try once though. I just know not to get FO in an Ultra Edge blade. |

I have similar desires for colors right now. I chose FO for this next grab bag blade color but SRD will almost certainly be on my next hilt.
Zren, I'm curious as to the cause of your dislike for the UE blades for orange. Personal thing from experience, or more of a general consensus from what you've read? I ordered up some grab bag blades a while back and all but one of them arrived as UE blades. I would have preferred more standard, clear blades but they were a great deal. I've tried orange and yellow filters in my AS Libby with UE blades and I don't think that they look bad, except for the fact that they look a bit like a popsicle in those colors, haha.
I would have thought that UE would be a good choice for FO since it is regarded as a more "dim" color and UE tends to brighten things up a bit.
Ren, when did you place your order?

With the regular blades I think they give colors like red/orange/yellow more of a firey look which I prefer over the popsicle look. Blazing Red isn't bad in UE but I prefer regular for BR/FO/SY. The UE blades make those colors more pastel I think. |

I got the HG for the FO and the UEHG for the SRD. My desicion for that was based almost entirely on the opinions of Deep.

Yeah, I agree about the pastel thing. I have a BR Dominix with UE on it and it doesn't look bad at all; super bright. I can imagine how orange would look like a easter orange popsicle though.

Correct. UltraEdge=white, Standard Mid/Heavy=translucent silvery lookin.
There must be more debate about UE vs. Mid than any other topic on the forum. For me, the jury is still out, overall. But I have a bunch of UE grab bag blades sitting in the corner, so I'm trying harder to like them, since they live with me, haha.

LOL Sometimes I think the best way to go is to have a couple extra of each kind. When you get a new color you've not tried before, try both and stick with the one you like. :-)

I agree with this. My blade/color likes are not always the forum norm. And many colors I like in both blade types. |

I've just read a few times that FO usually don't look good in an EU blade. I could be wrong now days though because I know the orange LED has changed. Maybe Ren's post will help. You think you could put the UE blade on the FO when you get it as well?

I am getting one of each. I will post pics of the FO and SRD with both blades. Only problem is i manage a kitchen in a upscale restaurant and that means i wont get home til late. And it looks like today is going to be a super slow day due to rain. So i have to wait all day just to leave. Makes me want ro cry. At least i have you guys to cheer me on through the day.

Just tried my stunt with fire orange in both blades that are HG. The UEHG produces a creamy soft color while the regular HG is much clearer and brighter. I would use with a regular medium grade silver film blade. The color is quite strong like a tangerine orange peel. It's a nice change from the more popular colors.  |
