So I'm registering for college classes, and the music theory class I'm taking is called Elements of Harmony.

You really need to make a copy of that class title and post it here for all to see.  That is amazingly cool.

So, I went to a Renaissance Faire this last weekend.

Despite there being super-duper nerds of D&D, Warhammer 40K, Skyrim, Star Trek and Star Wars, not to mention Dr. Who, Game of Thrones, and practitioners of BDSM, whips, chains, shackles codpieces, along with furries, fans of Rockey Horror Picture Show, sexual-innuendos, buxom-ladies, corsets, bodices, and general debauchery, not to forget people dressed up as ogres, fairies, and at least one person as a unicorn of all things.

Apparently, enjoying the animated show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is absolutely out of the question and considered really weird and is looked down upon.

Yeah... I'm not kidding.  Most everyone said that it was weird that I liked MLP.

Am I missing something here?

Keep in mind that it was once considered shameful to enjoy Star Trek and Star Wars and now it is the cool thing to do.  We are the leaders and when everyone else jumps on the band wagon we'll be able to say we like MLP when MLP wasn't "cool".

I would rather it stay obscure... otherwise we'd have to deal with the inevitable selling-out, no streams without lag, etcetera. I know I sound like a "secret club" type of guy, but still... I think the fandom should stay somewhat small for its own sake.

On a more cheerful note, my parents are being awesome.

They've been giving me a small present every morning leading up to my birthday (one day per year of my life), I suppose since I've had a difficult, mentally unstable year and whatnot. Anyway, today's gift was that they'll be buying S2 on DVD for me when it comes out

I may actually agree with this Luna because in many ways I like to be the MLP guy in my circle of friends, regardless if they like the show or not.  It's kind of nice meeting 1 or 2 people occasionally who like it so that I can have that "secret, peripheral-circle" within the main group.  Almost like we're members of a secret society [or herd] that no one can understand or visually comprehend.
 

In many ways, it's kind of like what Adventure Time is now.  I certainly like the show a lot more before it was more widely known, but now I can hardly watch the show without it merely making jokes in and of itself because those jokes were funny in the past.
Or maybe I don't know what I'm talking about and it's still amazing.  I don't know, I've been watching MLP mostly.

In some ways it's kind of like the furry fandom.  Unless you're looking for it, you may never ever come across it [which can be a blessing or not depending on ones perspective], such as most all of my friends.  For me it was an opportunity to see some different styles of artwork, but like everything, you need to take the good with the bad... and the disturbing.

I think what got me mainly into MLP in the past 4 months or so was me taking a Multicultural Education class in my teaching credential program.  It has allowed me to keep a more open mind culturally, socially, and through the genders.  Because of these implications I feel that MLP just really isn't for everyone, like the show ReBoot or Beast Wars: Transformers, I think.


So, how does this birthday gift thing work exactly and of what quantity or quality is it Luna?  Do you get 363 presents?  
I celebrate Hanukkah and while it is true we get like 8 presents, 7 of them are extremely pitiful [socks, hangers, pens, chocolate coins, a notebook maybe] while 1 is usually nice [money, clothes, etc.]; of course let me emphasize... 1 is USUALLY nice, i.e. one year I got a 3 foot remote controlled robot from the Sharper Image [when it was still in business] at the age of 23 that is still sitting in its box in the garage, somewhere...

I totally agree, especially with the last sentence... it isn't for everyone. If it becomes trendy, the influx of fake fans will destroy the fandom. "Brony" will be on par with "YOLO" and "swag", and nobody will actually like the show anymore.

Let us hope that never happens.

I wasn't very clear about it, was I? What I meant by "one day per year of my life" was that since I'm turning Y, I get a present daily for Y days leading up to my actual birthday (yes, I am still keeping my age secret...). Quality so far has varied widely, since the presents are based mainly on sentimental value rather than monetary value. The highlights so far have been seeing JP in 3D (with the whole theater to my father and myself) and, of course, S2 on DVD.

So if you were 47 then you would receive 47 presents prior to your birthday?
Again, I'm not saying you are or you're not, I'm just choosing an extremely random number that doesn't have any sort of connection to anything or isn't a very popular number [i.e. 13, 11, 3, 4, 5, 7, 27, 14, 17, 21... basically numbers you see often in video-games and anime].
 

I don't know why I'm so interested in this sort of stuff, I guess I just like puzzles.
You can just reply with a yes or a no and I will end it there.

Yes, one episode so far...not made for young adults as the other was, more 10-12 I suspect

If I were turning 5, I would be receiving a present each day starting 5 days before my birthday. If I were turning 6, I would be receiving a present each day for 6 days.

Obviously I'm a good bit older than 6, but you get the idea
