You know, people really shouldn't let their dogs run around without leashes, but especially if they know the dog is aggressive. I can promise you, if I have my saber and your dog attacks me, it won't the be the saber that breaks.
You need a saber to achieve those results?

I'm almost 39 years old. Is it too late to be adopted by any other family than mine?

Special effing snowflakes, customers. I empathize. I hate how you have to kiss the butts of every customer while they are allowed to say and do whatever they please, throw a tantrum, and basically dehumanize you "because it's your job." Uh, no. No one signs up for that. How about you treat everyone like a damn human being? I'm sorry to hear you lost your job over some idiot, regardless of how major or minor the incident may have been.

Special is right. Just not the special they think! This incident was mostly me being an ass, but in a harmless sarcastic way, not maliciously. But I've been written up in the past, for responding in ways that were NO WHERE near as bad as what the customer initially said to me.

Sorry to hear that, TJ...
Thankfully I and my coworkers realize that I have all the tact and subtlety of an angry rhino on meth, so they keep me out of meetings with clients.

Yeah, I think I learned one thing this time around, finally. I DO NOT belong in retail.

I learned the same thing. You know, I used to work at a bank and I almost got fired for calling the cops on someone who was banging on the doors after hours with what looked suspiciously like a gun in their hand. (Turned out to be an old model cell phone, but uh . . . I couldn't see it from across the lobby.) The branch manager made me CALL THE GUY AND APOLOGIZE and at the time, I had to do it because I needed the job so badly. Well, when I quit, I told HR allllllllll about that incident and the girl behind the desk could not hide her mortification. She just stared at me. I mean, STARED. Then, she asked me for some closing words about that boss and I said to her, "I hope she dies alone with a pint of Ben and Jerry's, is eaten by her chihuahuas and is then turned into the piece of sh*t that she truly is." Then, I leaned over the desk and said, "Type that just like I said it." Yeah. Bye.

Sorry to hear about the job TJ, people in general, SUCK. Took me one round or working retail to learn that lesson. When I worked for Office Max (before they tore my shoulder and closed the store) we had a lady come in... She drove a brand spankin' new Mercedes SUV ($80,000 or so) had on clothes that cost more than what I made in a month, her sunglasses and purse were probably 2 months pay, and the clothes on her demon spawn child were worth more than my car. It was back to school time, so she was buying school supplies, which is fine, but when you're wearing and driving $100,000 worth of stuff, don't come b*tching to me that we are out of stock on the $0.25 scissors that were advertised in our flyer 5 days ago. Heaven forbid you try and sell her the $0.35 pair (which actually were nicer.) She completely went off the handle to our assistant manager, who wrote me up... Speshul snowflakes indeed...

If I remember, back in the day, you had to actually do or say something bad to get in trouble. Now? All the customer has to do is make a scene and you get written up, regardless of what you actually said or did. Like your experience above, JES. I also remember it being common knowledge that stupid questions get sarcastic and stupid answers, and that's just how it is.

I used to work at Spencer's as a manager and the policy was no refunds. Period. Not for any reason. Exchange or store credit only. So, this lady comes in with a baseball cap her son bought and starts yelling at me because the cap has the word "damn" on it. Now, there is a GIANT sign in the window that warns of explicit material as well as the sale of "adult" items in the store. I tell the lady the whole thing about no refunds and store credit and blah blah blah. She gets in my face and points a finger at me, saying that "how dare you sell MY son merchandise with a DIRTY WORD on it!!!!" because "he's 12!!!" I asked the obvious. Was she with him when he bought it or did he come in here and buy it on his own? Gee, wonder what her answer was. So, she accuses me of "being a smarty pants" and threatens to call my boss for "not giving her money back." I repeat the store policy (which is what I was told to do NO MATTER WHAT) and she flies into a Biblical rage, in which I am now called Satan, a racist, and a few other hilarious attempts at insults. She storms out in a rage with her stupid cap and I call the big boss to tell her what happened, 100% certain that she will stand by me because I hardcore followed policy and was super polite about it. HA. I got written up for not giving her money back. So, retail teaches people that if you stand there and throw a big enough tantrum, not only will you get your way (despite the store rules), but you will also put that "snide little employee" in their place for not bowing to your all-mighty will. Fabulous.
