Title: Post Apoc shopping game! Post by: Master Rel on October 24, 2012, 06:08:15 AM I have done this a dozen or more times over the years, and this time I can use the internet which was not always available in the past.
Basically, I will provide a link to a catalog and you will have a limited budget. If it is on that site then you have access to it. Between these aspects you are to outfit yourself to survive whatever is out there...mohawk gangs looking to invade your 6, feral mutant mobs, zombies, etc. Best of luck and enjoy shopping :) ***** The first link is the Mart-Wal site...you are shopping online but the idea is that you are running through a store that is a mess, the budget represents the limited time to shop, and if you want something else that would be in any store of that type that is not sold...like a shopping cart, then add it but keep in mind you are on the run...gotta keep moving. http://www.walmart.com/ (http://www.walmart.com/) Your budget/time limit is $500 Looking forward to seeing your lists! :) Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! Post by: reiperx on October 25, 2012, 10:37:28 PM btw Rel, I love this game. Had my friend do the Walmart shopping last night and he did good then he realized he had no way to boil water or test water.
So now we are working on a very specific scenario and going to have 5 people shopping to compare, and discuss their strategy. But so far the consensus with us at work is hit the hills and avoid confontation whenever possible. I'm keen on hitting Mammoth Cave personally (probably a week away walking through the forrest and avoiding Nashville). Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! I should be able to conserve ammo fairly easily and use it primarily for hunting, while I can also use trapping for food as well. I would eventually have to venture back into towns to scavenge for additional supplies, which I'd use the zombie entails and such to mask me again (since this is Walking Dead version of them). The traps could also be used to attract zombies away from my be having living animals captured so they would go towards them to eat, while my scent guard (zombie parts, eww) would help keep them from spending too much time under my tree fort. Eventually I'd raid a home depot for nails, saws, wood, and anything else that would be usable. But my primary goal is survival and not really fighting unelss I have to. Hell, maybe even try to capture a couple and use them as pets (no jaw, no hands, little to no threat). Yeah I don't watch the show but read the entire wikia on it. **edit** ok the pics aren't showing up. Guess Basspro has an anti leach on it. Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! Zombie Killer (http://www.coldsteel.com/images/products/88BOK_m.jpg) Hunting spear made for throwing and bringing down large game, such as lions and leopards, which should very easily work well with any sort of wild game i may run acrosss, and if absolutely necessary could be used to dispatch a Zombie, but i wouldn't want to contaminate and risk ruining my source of obtaining food. (http://www.coldsteel.com/images/products/95SB_m.jpg) And a hunting knife to skin and field dress my kills, could be used to defend myself if needed, again last resort so i dont need to worry about contaminating my food (http://www.coldsteel.com/images/products/36G_m.jpg) Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! Post by: Master Rel on June 20, 2013, 01:23:20 PM I great list...but dear lord your cart would be seriously full!
But that is fine...most likely there would be a horse, motorcycle, car/truck, friends, etc. to help with load. That said, all quality choices. Point :D Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! Post by: Bern Sal Becca on June 20, 2013, 02:18:14 PM Thanks, it looks bigger than it is though, pretty much everything on that collapses, and i dont think i would have the cart full, especially i i was packing equipment into the bags as i went along,

Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! Post by: Master Rel on June 20, 2013, 04:27:17 PM you like post apoc scenarios don't you rel? pretty interesting game but ...but what? Lol Yes I do like the post apoc but not for the reasons most do I am thinking. I like to reduce the human equation in a wide stroke...creating a new frontier wih remains of the days past. Aside from that it comes down to one word...mutants ;) But I do like the realistic settings also, hense the shopping game, Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! Post by: B1ondeange1 on June 20, 2013, 05:11:31 PM just "but" :P
I like the new frontier with remains of the days past idea, though I like it more in terms of firefly style thing. I can mostly deal with aliens (unless they are big scary monster type things, I don't do big scary monster aliens, unless they are the covenant) but I don't do zombies or mutants *shudders* dunno what it is but I just cant deal with them. hate hate hate zombies! if my partner jared plays zombie games, i leave the room or make him play on the computer screen with it turned away from me and with head phones on. my friends decided to force me to watch dawn of the dead back in high school, like if I tried to run away theyd hold me down type force, omg i had nightmares for ages!!!! they also weren't in my popular books for a short while. then they tried to force me to watch shawn of the dead- but I managed to escape part way through :P back in highschool some friends including jared did a role play scenario with d&d style rules of zombie apoc in our local city/ town and enjoyed it (I stayed well clear, yuk zombies!). it still comes up in conversations from time to time, primarily coz one of our friends made a stupid choice of weapon and got a bad roll and got decapitated in a spectacular fashion right at the start. funny how silly little things like that stay with you. I rekon jared would like this game of yours Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! Post by: Master Rel on June 23, 2013, 02:26:47 PM Then have him join the forum and play along!
;D Alrighty then...a new process...transportation. The setting is typical post apoc...limited people, no public utilities, resources are just what you can find or modify...no zombies or aliens. How would you get around? Do you walk, ride a bike, use a motorcycle, drive a truck, ride a horse, etc.? Each has issues...some need fuel, others need food...there would be needed replacement parts, medicines...etc. So no price limit but rather a limit of what you could manage alone. Meaning you do not have 15 vehicles, you could not operate an aircraft requiring a crew of 6, a gang of 7 horses would be a major burden on the road with food/water/etc. What personal transport would you choose? Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! Post by: Jev Moldara on June 23, 2013, 03:55:18 PM Well, the best option for a group would be the convoy route.
- 4 fuel tankers (full - 2 diesel, 2 gasoline) - uparmored, reinforced frame, reinforced hitching - 1 box truck for motorcycle storage. - 1 18-wheeler with modified box trailer used for food and supply storage, mobile kitchen, etc - uparmored, reinforced frame, reinforced hitching - 4 SUVs (hybrid) - uparmored for protection and equipped with a reinforced frame, weapon mounts, and a front plow for getting through obstacles - 2 pickup trucks (hybrid) - uparmored for protection and equipped with weapon mounts in the bed. - 6 cars (hybrid) - uparmored, reinforced frame, weapon mounts on passenger side - 6 offroad motorcycles - no modifications On the personal side of things, I guess the best option would be on foot. You're more maneuverable on foot, less likely to draw attention, and it's easy to hide if need be. Of course, the faster you find a group to hook up with, the better. Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! Post by: Master Rel on June 23, 2013, 03:57:32 PM If available I would have a camel...tough as nails.
If not then a horse. I am familiar with the husbandry issues and tack related maintenance. :) Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! Post by: Bern Sal Becca on June 24, 2013, 03:45:17 AM I would personally choose a horse, able to get a decent speed, would also work well to alert me of anyone or anything else that i might have missed, such as a large predator. Familiar enough with a horse to take care of it. Plus it would give the added benefit of being a food source if you get desperate enough
Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! Post by: B1ondeange1 on June 24, 2013, 03:27:27 PM If available I would have a camel...tough as nails. wouldn't that have to depend on the terrain? I personally have no idea, but wouldn't've thought a camel would be the best in forests. a horse would be cool, far more mobile and lets face it humans have used horses as a form of transport for a long time. Problem is I've had very little experience with horses, only ridden one once (if you don't count pony rides where you are being led). But I guess if you needed you'd learn quick personally I like the idea of bashing around in an SUV if you got a bit more open ground 8) sure you gotta worry bout fuel and mechanical issues, but an SUV can also be shelter/ protection and can carry a lot or gear and/ or multiple ppl. And if you get an old fashioned (but far less comfy) 4wd you can fix it with fencing wire and lacky bands! least, that's how our old landrover used to be temporarily fixed. There were always some lackey bands around the gearstick. God knows what they were used for, I was too young to remember anything but thinking it was strange that mum would pop the bonnet, fiddle, come back for a lacky band, fiddle again, then off wed go. I grew up in a country town with a stubborn do it yourself dad who was born in the wrong era- I've never met someone more unable to deal with technology Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! Post by: Tasardur on June 24, 2013, 09:19:23 PM Okay, so, what's goin' on here. I'm too lazy to read through more than the first page and I just wanted to know if we are still on the Walmart shopping list or another one?
Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! Post by: Bern Sal Becca on June 24, 2013, 10:26:43 PM right now we are on personal transport, nothing outlandish, like a convoy or tank or anything, but more reasonable such as suv, car, horse, bike, feet etc
Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! Post by: Tasardur on June 24, 2013, 10:30:53 PM Horse. I know how to ride one, they can be easily fed. It'll likely be more easy to find patches of vegitation for the horse to feed on than it would be to find gas for a vehicle.
A camel could be nice too, but they aren't nearly as fast. Although, you wouldn't have to worry as much about keeping it from dehydrating and dying of thirst. Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! Post by: Jev Moldara on June 24, 2013, 11:34:05 PM A camel could be nice too, but they aren't nearly as fast. Incorrect. Most camels can outrun most horses. Only racing horses are faster, but camels can out endure them. If it's on sand, the race is even more lopsided. Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! What edged hand weapon...just one...would you want in this setting. It needs to exist, so no magic swords or other such...no Mithril, no adamantium steel-vibranium alloy, etc. Just mundane real world materials and available today. But price is not an option, so it can be any one edged weapon. To be clear...not an assault rifle with over and under grenade launchers...with a bayonet attached...not an armored tank with mounted spikes. Just a single hand weapon that is an edged weapon...knife, sword, spear, sharpened mace, etc. What one single real world edged hand weapon would want to face the world of the Walking Dead? Post by: Master Rel on November 14, 2013, 05:41:45 PM The one that makes the most sense on the one hand is a proper boar spear...keep them zombies at distance, but depending on the setting the length could present a bit of squirreliness...good as a mundane walking staff...lever...hmmm a good choice for sure...
(http://www.southernswords.co.uk/ekmps/shops/southernswords/images/boar-spear-2377-p.jpg) But I am thinking in my zombie slaying heart that a decent mid range blade with at least four hands length offers balance, good weight to effort ratio, and little chance of sticking as it passes through bone and sinew... (http://zombietools.net/images/weapons/zombie_tools_mack_daddyo_1200-thumb.jpg) So the modern zombie hacking dadao is for me :) Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! The knife-bladed arrows are convenient in tight situations since they double as a slicing weapon. bodkin arrows are the staple of any bow-toting warrior and the Katana is a necessary back-up... they are light for swift carry, and one of the sharpest-know blades. Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! Post by: Master Rel on February 27, 2014, 07:39:25 PM Knife bladed arrowheads?
You could not find them because they don't exist? I looked and could not find them either. I suspect far too heavy and awkward to be viable except in a video game :( Broadheads would do what you are looking for I suspect :D (http://discussions.texasbowhunter.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=86263&stc=1&d=1237572349) (http://91.229.239.12/fg/1195/95/tiro-con-arco/Puntas-de-caza-con-arco-8-euros-3uni-119595877_1.jpg) (http://www.archeryaddix.com/forums/attachments/s-s-archery/20195d1340801947-introducing-solid-broadhead-company-2012-06-21_20-31-53_917.jpg) Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! Best of luck with your future designs and builds! ***** Moving on in post apoc shopping subjects! The next shopping location...your local Wal-Mart! http://www.walmart.com/ (http://www.walmart.com/) Now this one will be a bit different... Everyone gets a bicycle and a shopping cart, we will assume you can figure out how to put the two together, Tim says "make it work!" You can have anything that will fit within, on, under that cart. What would your list include? If you choose too much stuff...then you will be onset by thousands of zombies or a band of roving raiders...either way if you take too much then you are caught and lose it all! Good luck and success with your shopping efforts! Remember your family and friends are waiting for you to get back and further support them :D Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! Post by: Vixus PriX on March 14, 2014, 05:44:28 PM Okay, so with my updated list... now plausible: It may not be Walmart, but its still real.
A metal fan: melee or short range, not to mention it's looks will distract the zombie until it's through it's skull. https://www.budk.com/product/Martial-Arts-Fan-Self-Defense-Weapon/172853.uts (https://www.budk.com/product/Martial-Arts-Fan-Self-Defense-Weapon/172853.uts) and like earlier: a katana can't go wrong... they are light, swift, and hardly destructible. This one is more modern, a bit wide though, but I expect performance. I really like the sheath. http://www.budk.com/product/United-Cutlery-Black-Full-Tang-Ninja-Sword-&-Shoulder-Scabbard/159695.uts (http://www.budk.com/product/United-Cutlery-Black-Full-Tang-Ninja-Sword-&-Shoulder-Scabbard/159695.uts) This one is lighter, more traditional, and I trust Shinwa blades. http://www.budk.com/product/Shinwa-Black-Knight-Black-Cord-Damascus-Ninja-Katana-Sword/159687.uts (http://www.budk.com/product/Shinwa-Black-Knight-Black-Cord-Damascus-Ninja-Katana-Sword/159687.uts) And a few packs of these... cheep, simple, disposable. http://www.budk.com/product/Smith-&-Wesson-Throwing-Knives-8in-6-Pack/176377.uts (http://www.budk.com/product/Smith-&-Wesson-Throwing-Knives-8in-6-Pack/176377.uts) and the 40 lb. bow and broad-head arrows. so my armory: 2 fans 2 katanas 50+ throwing knives (I would probably stash most of those somewhere) 1 bow 30 broad-head arrows. did I survive? and with the two different sheath positions, I can carry both at once... and the fans (of course I'd duel-wield those.) could be kept in my pockets. Better off with simple boiling and using filters. http://www.walmart.com/ip/ZeroWater-23-Cup-Dispenser-with-Free-TDS-Meter-ZD-018/16480941 (http://www.walmart.com/ip/ZeroWater-23-Cup-Dispenser-with-Free-TDS-Meter-ZD-018/16480941) http://www.walmart.com/ip/Watts-Premier-Digital-Water-Purifier-Tester/29444969 (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Watts-Premier-Digital-Water-Purifier-Tester/29444969) http://www.walmart.com/ip/PurifiCup-PUR-2227-Purificup-Portable-Natural-Water-Purifier/28087418 (http://www.walmart.com/ip/PurifiCup-PUR-2227-Purificup-Portable-Natural-Water-Purifier/28087418) http://www.walmart.com/ip/PurifiCup-PUR-2203-Purificup-Portable-Natural-Water-Purifier/28087417 (http://www.walmart.com/ip/PurifiCup-PUR-2203-Purificup-Portable-Natural-Water-Purifier/28087417) But if you still want nasty tasting water, here you go... http://www.walmart.com/ip/Coghlan-s-Emergency-Drinking-Water-Germicidal-Tablets/8586958?action=product_interest&action_type=title&placement_id=irs_middle&strategy=PWVAV&visitor_id=70686608936&category=0%3A4125%3A4128%3A1080844%3A1080865&client_guid=653969ad-4678-4076-9797-05aebea36aa0&config_id=0&parent_item_id=28087417&guid=132a1c31-34fd-49f8-8926-aadafbe06463&bucket_id=irsbucketdefault&findingMethod=p13n (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Coghlan-s-Emergency-Drinking-Water-Germicidal-Tablets/8586958?action=product_interest&action_type=title&placement_id=irs_middle&strategy=PWVAV&visitor_id=70686608936&category=0%3A4125%3A4128%3A1080844%3A1080865&client_guid=653969ad-4678-4076-9797-05aebea36aa0&config_id=0&parent_item_id=28087417&guid=132a1c31-34fd-49f8-8926-aadafbe06463&bucket_id=irsbucketdefault&findingMethod=p13n) A basic starter kit or two may help... http://www.walmart.com/ip/Stansport-Hurricane-Earthquake-Flood-Emergency-Preparedness-Kit-50-Piece/10927662?action-product_interest&action_type=title&placement_id=irs_middle&strategy=PWVAV&visitor_id=70686608936&category=0%3A4125%3A4128%3A1080844%3A1080865&client_guid=2323e03b-7fe7-45c6-9b58-f41c216d7e31&config_id=0&parent_item_id=28087417&guid=f178a891-aeea-4084-88c1-885e8e34b588&bucket_id=irsbucketdefault&findingMethod=p13n (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Stansport-Hurricane-Earthquake-Flood-Emergency-Preparedness-Kit-50-Piece/10927662?action-product_interest&action_type=title&placement_id=irs_middle&strategy=PWVAV&visitor_id=70686608936&category=0%3A4125%3A4128%3A1080844%3A1080865&client_guid=2323e03b-7fe7-45c6-9b58-f41c216d7e31&config_id=0&parent_item_id=28087417&guid=f178a891-aeea-4084-88c1-885e8e34b588&bucket_id=irsbucketdefault&findingMethod=p13n) http://www.walmart.com/ip/Gerber-Bear-Grylls-Ultimate-Survival-Kit/15935497?action=product_interest&action_type=title&placement_id=irs_middle&strategy=PWVUB&visitor_id=70686608936&category=0%3A4125%3A4128%3A1080844%3A1080845&client_guid=c84070cb-083b-4465-bc66-d61831201b16&config_id=0&parent_item_id=10927662&guid=ab9ee25e-e80a-4df5-9ff4-c3bd846b4375&bucket_id=irsbucketdefault&findingMethod=p13n (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Gerber-Bear-Grylls-Ultimate-Survival-Kit/15935497?action=product_interest&action_type=title&placement_id=irs_middle&strategy=PWVUB&visitor_id=70686608936&category=0%3A4125%3A4128%3A1080844%3A1080845&client_guid=c84070cb-083b-4465-bc66-d61831201b16&config_id=0&parent_item_id=10927662&guid=ab9ee25e-e80a-4df5-9ff4-c3bd846b4375&bucket_id=irsbucketdefault&findingMethod=p13n) http://www.walmart.com/ip/Crosman-Doomsday-Bug-Out-Survival-Kit/21311833?action-product_interest&action_type=title&placement_id=irs_middle&strategy=PWVAV&visitor_id=70686608936&category=0%3A4125%3A4128%3A1080844%3A1080865&client_guid=eb90d3d9-87c3-43d1-bf1a-c41042abc8c3&config_id=0&parent_item_id=28087417&guid=ad3bed4d-d924-406e-9b24-f9b5e66b52e6&bucket_id=irsbucketdefault&findingMethod=p13n (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Crosman-Doomsday-Bug-Out-Survival-Kit/21311833?action-product_interest&action_type=title&placement_id=irs_middle&strategy=PWVAV&visitor_id=70686608936&category=0%3A4125%3A4128%3A1080844%3A1080865&client_guid=eb90d3d9-87c3-43d1-bf1a-c41042abc8c3&config_id=0&parent_item_id=28087417&guid=ad3bed4d-d924-406e-9b24-f9b5e66b52e6&bucket_id=irsbucketdefault&findingMethod=p13n) http://www.walmart.com/ip/Augason-Farms-30-Day-Emergency-Pail/20532432?action=product_interest&action_type=title&placement_id=irs_top&strategy=PWVAV&visitor_id=70686608936&category=0%3A4125%3A4128%3A1080844%3A1080865&client_guid=4cd00e6f-dcd8-4ceb-a736-fdaef9079ffa&config_id=2&parent_item_id=8586958&guid=dd90c79f-4be8-4ba1-903f-023a2e1c4f68&bucket_id=irsbucketdefault&findingMethod=p13n (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Augason-Farms-30-Day-Emergency-Pail/20532432?action=product_interest&action_type=title&placement_id=irs_top&strategy=PWVAV&visitor_id=70686608936&category=0%3A4125%3A4128%3A1080844%3A1080865&client_guid=4cd00e6f-dcd8-4ceb-a736-fdaef9079ffa&config_id=2&parent_item_id=8586958&guid=dd90c79f-4be8-4ba1-903f-023a2e1c4f68&bucket_id=irsbucketdefault&findingMethod=p13n) Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game! Post by: Master Rel on March 18, 2014, 05:51:24 PM Did you read Rina's comments about being stuck in a Russian winter with limited bath time...as per soap?
Soap is important my friend. :) Moving on! Next shopping challenge! Craigslist! http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites (http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites) If it is still listed, regardless of being sold in a current craigslist page then it is up for grabs. The limitations... 1. budget...total maximum budget, period, $6000 2. range...you may use any Craigslist page that is in your current state, where you live, at this moment...but it costs you x2 the price for anything not in your town/city...if you do not have a craigslist for your town then the closest one will be your town/city page (for our overseas friends, use the one closest to you as you can, be it in another country if need be) 3. post the current text from the ad as ads are taken down all the time, so linking is fruitless The standard setting, world gone to sith...insert zombies if you like as per Walking Dead or not and just deal with humans in the chaos of post apoc, they are more dangerous anyway :D Title: Re: Post Apoc shopping game!
