Great find! There was so much to look at I missed this one!  Which is the point...after all it was supposed to be a time limit of sorts...I have done this in the store with all of us running around with a pad and paper writing our lists, no budget but only 60 minutes...you had to be back up front at a meeting place at the 60 minute mark or get nothing...good times.

btw Rel, I love this game. Had my friend do the Walmart shopping last night and he did good then he realized he had no way to boil water or test water.

So now we are working on a very specific scenario and going to have 5 people shopping to compare, and discuss their strategy. But so far the consensus with us at work is hit the hills and avoid confontation whenever possible.

I'm keen on hitting Mammoth Cave personally (probably a week away walking through the forrest and avoiding Nashville).

It is a fun exercise, but I love numbers and parts so it fits my niche well   ::)

Primary plans would be to use the wire and traps to actually capture and kill some, and use their entrails and body parts to mask my smell as I made a primary basecamp in the trees. I should be able to conserve ammo fairly easily and use it primarily for hunting, while I can also use trapping for food as well. I would eventually have to venture back into towns to scavenge for additional supplies, which I'd use the zombie entails and such to mask me again (since this is Walking Dead version of them).

The traps could also be used to attract zombies away from my be having living animals captured so they would go towards them to eat, while my scent guard (zombie parts, eww) would help keep them from spending too much time under my tree fort.

Eventually I'd raid a home depot for nails, saws, wood, and anything else that would be usable. But my primary goal is survival and not really fighting unelss I have to. Hell, maybe even try to capture a couple and use them as pets (no jaw, no hands, little to no threat). Yeah I don't watch the show but read the entire wikia on it.

Good call on the water purification. It would be terrible to survive the initial zombie infestation just to end up catching a nasty parasite.

ZMax, I love those bullets. I'm actually buying some as soon as I get my H&K next year.

I always forget twine/rope, but ended up spending most of my money before I got to that part, although I didn't look and I guess I could have gotten it still. Oh well thats the point of this.

Yes I do like the post apoc but not for the reasons most do I am thinking.

I like to reduce the human equation in a wide stroke...creating a new frontier wih remains of the days past.

I like the new frontier with remains of the days past idea, though I like it more in terms of firefly style thing. I can mostly deal with aliens (unless they are big scary monster type things, I don't do big scary monster aliens, unless they are the covenant) but I don't do zombies or mutants *shudders* dunno what it is but I just cant deal with them. hate hate hate zombies! if my partner jared plays zombie games, i leave the room or make him play on the computer screen with it turned away from me and with head phones on. my friends decided to force me to watch dawn of the dead back in high school, like if I tried to run away theyd hold me down type force, omg i had nightmares for ages!!!! they also weren't in my popular books for a short while. then they tried to force me to watch shawn of the dead- but I managed to escape part way through :P

back in highschool some friends including jared did a role play scenario with d&d style rules of zombie apoc in our local city/ town and enjoyed it (I stayed well clear, yuk zombies!). it still comes up in conversations from time to time, primarily coz one of our friends made a stupid choice of weapon and got a bad roll and got decapitated in a spectacular fashion right at the start. funny how silly little things like that stay with you.

Alrighty then...a new process...transportation.

The setting is typical post apoc...limited people, no public utilities, resources are just what you can find or modify...no zombies or aliens.

How would you get around?

Do you walk, ride a bike, use a motorcycle, drive a truck, ride a horse, etc.?

Each has issues...some need fuel, others need food...there would be needed replacement parts, medicines...etc.

So no price limit but rather a limit of what you could manage alone.  Meaning you do not have 15 vehicles, you could not operate an aircraft requiring a crew of 6, a gang of 7 horses would be a major burden on the road with food/water/etc.

What personal transport would you choose?

Well, the best option for a group would be the convoy route.

- 4 fuel tankers (full - 2 diesel, 2 gasoline) - uparmored, reinforced frame, reinforced hitching
- 1 box truck for motorcycle storage.
- 1 18-wheeler with modified box trailer used for food and supply storage, mobile kitchen, etc - uparmored, reinforced frame, reinforced hitching
- 4 SUVs (hybrid) - uparmored for protection and equipped with a reinforced frame, weapon mounts, and a front plow for getting through obstacles
- 2 pickup trucks (hybrid) - uparmored for protection and equipped with weapon mounts in the bed.
- 6 cars (hybrid) - uparmored, reinforced frame, weapon mounts on passenger side
- 6 offroad motorcycles - no modifications


On the personal side of things, I guess the best option would be on foot. You're more maneuverable on foot, less likely to draw attention, and it's easy to hide if need be. Of course, the faster you find a group to hook up with, the better.

If available I would have a camel...tough as nails.

If not then a horse.  I am familiar with the husbandry issues and tack related maintenance.

I would personally choose a horse, able to get a decent speed, would also work well to alert me of anyone or anything else that i might have missed, such as a large predator. Familiar enough with a horse to take care of it. Plus it would give the added benefit of being a food source if you get desperate enough

a horse would be cool, far more mobile and lets face it humans have used horses as a form of transport for a long time. Problem is I've had very little experience with horses, only ridden one once (if you don't count pony rides where you are being led). But I guess if you needed you'd learn quick

personally I like the idea of bashing around in an SUV if you got a bit more open ground  8) sure you gotta worry bout fuel and mechanical issues, but an SUV can also be shelter/ protection and can carry a lot or gear and/ or multiple ppl. And if you get an old fashioned (but far less comfy) 4wd you can fix it with fencing wire and lacky bands! least, that's how our old landrover used to be temporarily fixed. There were always some lackey bands around the gearstick. God knows what they were used for, I was too young to remember anything but thinking it was strange that mum would pop the bonnet, fiddle, come back for a lacky band, fiddle again, then off wed go. I grew up in a country town with a stubborn do it yourself dad who was born in the wrong era- I've never met someone more unable to deal with technology

Horse. I know how to ride one, they can be easily fed. It'll likely be more easy to find patches of vegitation for the horse to feed on than it would be to find gas for a vehicle.

A camel could be nice too, but they aren't nearly as fast. Although, you wouldn't have to worry as much about keeping it from dehydrating and dying of thirst.

Incorrect. Most camels can outrun most horses. Only racing horses are faster, but camels can out endure them. If it's on sand, the race is even more lopsided.

And no need to shoe them.  Truth be told horses can be quite delicate and need special treatment.

The only issue is location. Outside of zoos, carnivals, and exotic animal refuges (such as those animals in Hollywood), you really won't find camels in North America.

This is why: Horse. I already have a horse, so I have no need to worry about finding one.

I'm a lower-marksman meaning I can hit within the red (or better) at typical 30-40' My preferred weight is between 30-40 lbs. and a bow can always be adjusted.
The knife-bladed arrows are convenient in tight situations since they double as a slicing weapon.
bodkin arrows are the staple of any bow-toting warrior
and the Katana is a necessary back-up... they are light for swift carry, and one of the sharpest-know blades.

Yo guys know that a katana is actually a terrible zombie apocalypse weapon right? Bone is incredibly hard to cut through, that's why butchers use a buzz saw, not a really sharp knife. Plus you need to keep it maintained, and that means wasting effort carrying more resources.

well, its a good think that my katanas are only my close range. and if one breaks, I've got another. also the reason why I chose the katanas from Bud-k... I trust their brands, especially Shinwa, United Cutlery is okay. Shinwa uses 2000 fold steel.
