I have been playing around with a 3D printer and design and finally finished a saber. The design is based on Ahsoka Tano's lightsaber (not exact replica). It's a stunt I built for my niece.

Dude. That is.....AWESOME!  I expected to see a 3-d printed saber to look kind of crude. That looks like something I would expect to fine at a convention. Fantastic job.

Absolute point.

Point for you.  That is outstanding!  When you said playing around with a 3D printer I wasn't expecting something professional looking.

Thanks guys. I am happy with the finish. If I wasn't so lazy I would have sanded it a bit better before painting, but its for a 10 yo so I figured she wouldn't care. Amazing what you can do with google sketch up and a 3d printer. I am working on customising an LE Dominix V2 now, planning for a SY blade

The lack of sanding actually gives it a very unique finish. It almost looks like powder coating. I would not change a thing about it. Whoever the lucky 10 year old should be very happy. Cheesy

One more question...can the hilt hold a blade?? Cool either away, just curious.

Yes it can hold a blade.

Zren -  I use a 32mm OD aluminium tube as the core. You could use sink tube too. You can then design sleeves in a 3d sketch program to be printed. They slide over and viola, it's done. I design the screw holes in the print so they act as a guide for drilling into the aluminium. The pommel has a sink tube cap screwed to it so it pushes in and out well. The most time consuming part is the design process. I get lots of ideas for a pommel or an emitter etc but can't always fit them together nicely. That and I am a novice on the 3d software.

That looks amazing! And I agree not sanding it back more just gives it a really awesome finish!

Did you take any pics before assembly/painting?  Would love to see what the bits looked like when they came out of the printer.

that is an amazing job good concept design and smart to use alumium tube for the inside base.  If designed and assmebled correctly I could see making duelable sabers. Let us know
how she handle and holds up to stress, would be very interested to know. I have some 3D design tools and want to try my hand at designing some saber parts. Mainly what I want to
design is internal parts.... such as chassis disks, crystal chamber parts, sound bord holders, switch holders, and custom peices for custom builds, blade plugs, even kill keys.  I mean
there is really no limit to what u can design
