Ooh, there's a thought. I wouldn't be surprised if there was one among the prizes, because they do seem to love giving us sneak peeks. Otherwise, imagine if you were the Grand/Emerald winner and you got told you were allowed to pick a pair of these...  That would be amazing, would be a hell of a prize. Question: Do emerald/Grand winners get to add covertecs, blade plugs etc at no extra charge? Always wondered that. |

OK I see now. Theoretically if the nickel plating is thicker the hilt would be stronger.
No. They would take a little bit more aluminum off during machining, that will then be replaced by the nickel during the plating process. Say you're making a high polish saber, the finished OD is 1.5". Now if you were making a CE, you'd machine down to say 1.497" OD in order to add the .0015" thick nickel plating. This would result in the CE also being 1.5"OD. |

I actually think that the saber in the movie isn't a cross guard at all and is actually exhaust ports on the saber. My theory is that is an ancient saber and its so inefficient that it needs exhaust ports to run which is why it looks all flamy and electric. |

It's all purely spectulation right now. It could be ports, it could be small blades. We won't know until we see more footage. |

Curious idea but if they are exhaust ports why the second ignition sound when they activated. We'll just have to wait for the movie. Hopefully they get more use than just being a random extra on there.

See I don't think that's a second ignition sound. They sound more like a blowtorch than anything imo, which leads me to the exhaust idea. We'l have to wait and see, either way, its awesome |
