Maybe we should get back on track?

Real world combat training...perhaps that relates to saber dueling?

As a real world Russian special forces assassin specializing with blades, perhaps the forum moderators could include stingere in the masters section...to approve you for giving advice related to dueling, physical training, etc.?

That would be cool  Smiley

Recognize your unique accomplishments, especially at such a young age.

Early 20's and a world class hand to hand assassin that really does not use guns...sounds like a James Bond villain...now there is an exciting life.

Isvana Khutchu or some such  lol   Grin

I think being a Master requires more skill in instruction than I have. But basically all I would have to do is relate my experience as a form of instruction.

I suppose the time I spent in the Marines made me awfully fond of live sparring. I always felt like I picked up more in unorganized scrapping with my very unusual brothers than in predictable A-B-C drills where you knew you were either going to throw a dude or get thrown before the word go. This has bled into our saber work with my little group here in Phoenix, where we tend to value the open and adaptable mind over set moves, even though I'll use slow downs and whatnot to demonstrate possible techniques that could be applied in particular situations.

Yeah, you should be a Resident Master. You would be the only female Master Cheesy And I believe the youngest.

Perhaps the youngest female Russian special forces blade assassin ever?

Surely the forum and other recognized masters will review your background and resume' and grant you the appropriate credit?

I only have 30+yrs of martial arts, 21yrs military experience (US Marine hand to hand instructor and US HLD anti-terrorism agent), and only have trained in a handful of different styles.

I don't have any real assassin training...but then again the US does not officially have assassins or assassin training...and if there were anyone in the US trained as such they would never be allowed to talk about it.

But I would not ask the review board to consider me as a master, I don't have the appropriate saber related background.

But a Russian special forces assassin with 6-7yrs experience with blade related training may be up the right alley?

I do not think I want to be a Resident Master. I"ll leave the instruction to others. And no, I am definitely not the youngest blade-specializing female assassin we have had.

It is an interesting situation either way.

Каждый русский воинский член я всегда встречал был очень закрытым ртом о их тренировке. Она любознательна что вы были натренированы для того чтобы быть убийцей и они препятствуют вам погулять прочь, и говорят о ей?

I have definitely spoken of it too much, although fortunately this is an anonymous forum. Even so, I have not said what force I was a part of, and the main reason for not wanting to become a Resident Master is confidentiality, which I am sure you will respect. Now back on topic, has anyone here trained with an odachi or o'dachi?

I have used a nodachi when I was training with the nagamaki.

I even made shinai-take versions of both for practicing and training.

It is a nagamaki that I am going to develop for the light sabering   Grin

Is handling those weapons as hard as it looks? People say they've got the advantages of both a spear and a sword, but to me it looks like the weight of an iron javelin.

It takes more strength than normal sword wielding.

Usually the larger guys use the big blades...very different techniques.

What sort of different? Like a zweihänder? It would be so cool to see someone with actual training to use one of those things in combat...

My initial formal training was in Shorin Ryu, so I trained with the bo, sai, kama, and nunchaku. I also fumbled around briefly with the Ieku. It's a long oar, that has a similar style to the naginata. I never formally trained with it, because it was beyond my rank at the time, but I understand the mechanics of the weapon, and the large sweeping motions used are highly suited to stronger individuals. Not to mention fighting in a crowded battlefield it's an amazing way to thin out numbers.

Anywho I agree that live sparring is very useful for learning. My chief methods of practice are sparring, and practicing on my own. I'll just work on crazy stuff by myself, and once I feel comfortable I'll try it in a duel, until it works.

As this relates to real combat training, and there are soldiers on this thread (and I don't have Stingie as my walking military encyclopedia anymore), does the (US) Modern Army Combatives program actually involve Filipino Martial Arts? I read on Wikipedia that it does, but it's hardly a reliable source Wink

All of the US military martial arts programs utilize multiple styles in part and portion to the form and function of the particular mission direction of the given service.

A quick answer is yes...there are elements of Eskrima in some programs...but none that I know of that focus in whole on one style.

The US Marine Corps has developed its own style for example
