I don't remember my thought process for my current name very well. I have had quite a few over the years. Each one was based on current life situations. They kept becoming outdated after a while. So I wanted to create one that was universal and never changing. I don't remember the points behind Metal. Mech came from my love of Mecha and being a mechanic in a past life and as a hobby now. So it works both ways. Now I have had it for so long and I still like it.

I always think of a stormtrooper when I see your name!
Just seems like it would fit. Thanks for sharing!

Is there a story behind it, though? Or was it one of those "latenightDNDsessionsandIneedaname" kind of thing?

Works for me I always liked Storm troopers. Been working on a costume idea in my head and I want to integrate a helmet but never could decided what style. Maybe I will go for a “repurposed” storm trooper helmet.

So...my Name originally comes from another franchise that I like too, which is Babylon 5...written a bit differently... Anla´Shok (meaning "the application of force").

The Anla'Shok are an elite fighting force, it is loosely translated into English as Rangers...in the words of there founder, they were to be "a military group dedicated to nothing less than preserving the future and all life.
Even our enemy's life, if possible." Smiley

Ah, Marcus.   He was Anla'Shok.  Great character, and tragic end.  But his fight with Naroon was EPIC....

Yeah. I initially was turned away simply because it looked like cheap syndicated sci-fi, but.......then I watched an episode. It made sense to a noob. I liked how the characters interacted. What wasn't to like.

The character arcs and development are great.   The special effects are a little dated now, but they were cutting-edge at the time and honestly they're not to bad even today.  Good enough that they don't distract from the story, at least.   :-)

But the thing that I appreciated most about the show was that it was built around a 5-year story arc.  There were stand-alone stories along the way but there was always SOMETHING going on that drove the larger narrative forward.  Even when they replaced the original Captain Sinclair it works into the story-arc as we see him return first as the head of the Anla-Shok and then morphing into Valen himself.

But the absolute, best ever line in the whole series was this:

"...and they made a very satisfying thump when they hit the ground."

:-)

YYYEEEESSSSS. It had a scheduled beginning, middle, and end. They weren't continually jumping sharks in a scramble to justify their continued running.

Sorry for the tangent. Carry on.

This is funny, I was going to put the story of my name in here, then remembered I wasn't using that name anymore (but still have the same avatar).

Sakura No Kaze translates as "wind through the cherry blossoms."

It was either that or yemīk’at’eli dabo, which translates loosely as "eater of toast." (Literally it's "eater of burnt bread." Close enough.)

My other name was one I used for years and years and years in various online games. Plus it was a good solid Sith sounding name.

For those who mentioned it, yes, it is technically possible to have your name changed.

My name came from the Hip-Hop Artist/Rapper Tech N9ne. Specifically off of the song 'Strange' from his Vintage Tech album. Whenever people tell me they don't care for rap as I genre, I always introduce them to his music. 9 times out of 10 people end up enjoying his songs. He's an independent rapper that never conformed to any norms or "selling out" in order to be accepted in the music industry. He's released a constant stream of music from the late 90's and is still going strong to this day. If he was in the Star Wars Universe he'd be a Jedi Master in terms of his musical ability. I appreciate him as an artist because he has songs spanning in every genre of music, whether it be Rock n Roll, Metal, RnB, Pop, etc. I've always had a pretty eclectic taste in music, so it worked out perfectly when I stumbled upon some of his songs years ago, and I've been a fan ever since.

This isn't the whole bar, but the song I mentioned above goes something like "N9ne Rhymes, make em go blind every time..." So as I was rewatching Star Wars: Rebels, the lyrics popped into my head while Maul and Kannun were dueling on Malacore. Specifically after it was revealed that he lost his eyesight. And if you look up pictures of Tech N9ne from back in the day, he was a pretty wild dude and rocked with crazy red spikes in his hair. Which is why I think Maul reminded me of him  Tongue

First off, I love this thread. Thank you for creating it!

If you are new to the forum, with no points yet,  also post which you would prefer. Light side points or darkside points?
I haven't read a story on here yet that didn't deserve a point! I want to give out the preferred points.

Second thing.  N9neRhymes,  I posted the song you were referring to, in the what are you listening to thread. It is a really good song. Thanks for the tip.

There is a story behind it, yes. The character himself has a great in depth history as well as internal conflicts and the such that's been developed over the years, however it has nothing to do with Star wars. The gist of his background, if you would like to know is below.

Aaric was a squire, aspiring to become a knight under his mentor and father figure Marrick. His mentor was the head of the Royal guard and refused to have them drop Aaric as a squire; despite never being able to pass the trials for knighthood and anything beyond a basic squire and knight in training. It wasn't the fact that Aaric couldn't perform his duties, or was ignorant to the codes, traditions or combat etiquette. He was obnoxiously clumsy by nature. Having caused serious injury to himself and others over the years of training, he could not over come having two left feet and an apparent curse of terrible luck. His mentor never gave up hope that either he would kill himself in an accident or prove that he isn't useless to the remainder of the Royal Guard. Well to speed up the story a covert mission was needed, one where no one would susspect a member of the royal family was traveling with a knight- who better to do that than a clumsy squire that is anything but the image of knightly? Through this task he finds a sentient sword, that aids him and helps him overcome being clumsy by helping him learn how to balance and redirect the clumsiness(turning a self trip into a feint for instance)

There is a LOT more to it than this and initially he started off as character in a Medieval High Fantasy roleplay and has become my go to name. I have a few different versions of him, one being the knight with the Sirname Val'Rhoth, and the second most prominent being a type of wizard/mage type with the Surname of Valm'Ir. Since I liked the character at its core, I've made it my online handle as well as my gamer tag for years since.

I came up with mine a while back as a screen name for my PlayStation. I came up with a starwars themed name and thought I’m in between the whole sith/Jedi thing. So walking that line between good and bad or black and white so grey walker. I found out after that there was such a thing as a grey Jedi so that worked out pretty well. I’ve sort of stuck with it for a few things now.

I thought so due to you using 9 to replace the i in N9ne like Tech does. He's also one of my favorite rappers. Points incoming
