I was out at my Mom's the other day for Christmas dinner with the family. I got to poking around the garage abit & came across my 1st lightsaber & many memories that went along with it. When the 1st movie came out, my older brother took me to see it on the big screen in the downtown theater, I think i was 9 at the time. I know that the movie had a big impression in that the 1st Halloween after that, I had aquired a Don Post Vader mask, had my sister in law make the capes & I cobbled together the boards & utility belt from old GM parts appropriated by my Dad. This primitive saber was made from a 2 D cell flashlight, a 30" x 1" wooden dowel rod, white base paint & alot of green glow in the dark paint, so yes I have enjoyed this hobby for quite awhile & it still glows in the dark 30 years later  Grin

My first lightsaber was built in 1983 with a wrapping paper tube and a green marker. It broke on the second hit.

yes, you can see much "battle" damage on the blade from hitting "jedi" saplings & any other inaminate object within range

That's awesome man! I have to wonder how cool the glow in the dark part looks, that must have been absolutely SICK back in the day! *sigh* Reminds me of all those years on the playground, nothing for sabers except pens and sticks for hilts, and imaginary blades. (stupid no toys, no toy weapons, no stick fights, and no imaginary weapons rules at school. XP Then again, us imaginary sword fighters tended to be left alone. lol)

My first saber was from that same line, only it was Vader's.

I honestly can't remember what my first saber was. I think it was a Luke ROTJ, but it may have been something else.

Nero, you have no idea how much time I spent in Toys R' Us staring at that box wishing they'd make a Luke ANH. lol

My first saber was, I believe, the Anakin Episode II telescoping saber with lights, sounds, and the training game feature. Wait! No! That was the second! My FIRST was the Episode I Qui-Gon saber with the Sith Probe Droid Disc Shooter Deflection game! Sonuvasith that was FUN! It actually tracked a signal from the hilt to shoot at you. So cool. Died fast when we dueled with it though. The Ani and Plo Ep II sabers lasted longer though, but eventually all died honorable deaths in pitched front yard combat. Heck, when the Plo died the first time, my buddy just grabbed the tip and jammed the jagged edge into the next section down and twisted till it wouldn't move. Got another week or so out of it like that. Good times, good times...

Thanks for sharing the story!  You sound like you have a great family!  And I agree that your first ever saber (call it your :training saber," eh?) belongs next with your current collection!

Same here buddy!  This was my first as well, plus the first night I had it, me and my cousin (with a cheap off brand no-sound saber lol) got to wander around my grandmom's house in the dark.  This may have influenced my decision to get my first US saber in Consular Green.  My second was that awesome Darth Maul double saber (which, as I recall correctly, had some sort of function where it would flash upon clashing with a strobe blink, but I won't continue down that line of thought, lol).
