I agree on both plus the layering aspect. Think about those sweet shots of Malgus all hooded up and maul in the tattooine desert. Shrouded in darkness until the big reveal

I'm just questioning the overall look minus the cape with a hood attached to the tunic

#SithProblems

I don't think you can go wrong with either choice.  You'll end up adapting with a hooded cloak or a cape when the time comes to expand.  My tunic has a hoodie, so I'm thinking about a cape.  If it didn't, I'd be looking for a hooded cloak...

**Update**

Made some belt pouches out of EVA foam....They do look rather "leather-y"!

they do look leathery.  these are something I'd probably build out of leather, but nobody's gonna notice, that's how close you've got it.

I do see that small ding where you mis-grooved on the smaller pouch.  there's a leather tool for doing that, with a guide bar to keep it aligned with the outside edge.  not sure if it'd work on EVA, but it might...

good job.  I suspect the wider one can hold a smart phone.  I am now envious Smiley

What's the backside look like?  How are you holding the sides & back together?  As well as the mount to your belt?

The whole thing is  3 pieces of 4 mm foam (  2 sides and the pouch) with a 2mm detail. I cut the trim and used a heat gun to open up the groove. To attach I made a loop out of 2mm foam (2 for the larger pouch) & gave a little extra room for a belt to slide through

The small pouch is a little too small for my flip phone(don't judge me) & the larger one holds it nicely but might be a bit small for a smart phone.

I used a free template from the foam cave for a batman utility belt pouch and then just extended it for the larger one and hand drew the flap to match. The detail was from my own brain.

Extra thoughts on pouching (mostly for anybody else about to make pouches):
over in steampunk land, a craft book I have from a legend of the art, showed making faux leather out of two layers of craft foam sandwiching double-sided duct tape.  This way, either side looked like leather, and the duct tape gave it the strength to not tear easily under load.  Not sure how EVA foam compares to leather or craft foam, so it might apply.  Craft foam tends to look less leathery.

for the leather pouches I bought, the guy used too much elastic banding as the pouch strap (it was fished through 2 slits in the back of the pouch and the ends fastened together).

Way too sloppy on my belt, so I cut them off and used 1" wide by about 4" long strip of 2 sided velcro.  That let me get it very tight on my belt

My master leatherworker guy used snaps, so his pouch snaps onto his belt.  That pretty much locks in the configuration, so I prefer my solution.

the secret to leathery texture on foam is a heat gun and crumpled tin foil pressed into the foam. Crazy effective…just don't hit it with the heat again or it's back to flat foam!

what's the next step on your outfit?

Mine's pretty much done, aside from waiting on those mythical boots.  I reckon I'm stumped on anything else I could add.

Looking good.  Have you got plans for a belt or boots yet?

I just wanted to stop in to say that you have a really nice set going there. Very impressive. Nothing actually constructive to add, but what you made is deserving of praise.

I have a belt that I normally wear that I may combine with a foam piece to make a larger prequel style belt or I may just buy something.

as for boots…no plans there yet. boots are a big expensive pain

Thanks  bub! If mine turns out a fraction as awesome as yours, then I'll be happy. You were part of some initial inspiration! Appreciate the love!
