So, how do you pronounce "Iram"? (Please give a detailed pronunciation ;D ) Iram It depends on if you are interested in it being easy for English speakers to guess, in which case it's EYE-rum, rhyming with "Hiram," or if you want it to be authentically Latin, in which case it would be "EE-rahm" (extra points for rolling the "r" just a touch, and try to avoid drawing out the vowels as long as an English speaker would. (If you've heard the Spanish "i" and "a," that's the basic idea.) Title: Re: How do you pronounce "Iram"? Post by: JediXIX on March 16, 2016, 05:22:09 AM I'm with Kham ... Post by: GregG124 on March 16, 2016, 06:03:43 AM I was definitely thinking "EYE-Rum" but now I am convinced by the Latin pronunciation, "EE-rrom"
Iram, is that your real name? Or just a alias? Title: Re: How do you pronounce "Iram"? Post by: Gilbert on March 16, 2016, 06:18:31 AM this is how I am saying it http://vocaroo.com/i/s1CkK9HdMyrc (http://vocaroo.com/i/s1CkK9HdMyrc)
Title: Re: How do you pronounce "Iram"? Post by: Iram on March 16, 2016, 01:58:05 PM I was definitely thinking "EYE-Rum" but now I am convinced by the Latin pronunciation, "EE-rrom" Iram, is that your real name? Or just a alias? Greg wins. These are usually the 2 ways I pronounce it. But there are lots of ways to pronounce it. this is how I am saying it http://vocaroo.com/i/s1CkK9HdMyrc (http://vocaroo.com/i/s1CkK9HdMyrc) Basically yes. :D :D I was definitely thinking "EYE-Rum" but now I am convinced by the Latin pronunciation, "EE-rrom" Iram, is that your real name? Or just a alias? It's just my chief alias. It'd be a sick name though... Title: Re: How do you pronounce "Iram"? Title: Re: How do you pronounce "Iram"? Post by: marina_bonomi on March 16, 2016, 02:46:16 PM The latin way, using the continental pronunciation of the wovels and our (Italian) r sound.
By the way, since we are talking about it, is there a specific reason behind your choice of the accusative case? Title: Re: How do you pronounce "Iram"? Post by: Layana on March 16, 2016, 05:42:28 PM Something like "Ee-rum" I think (it's double difficult to write in english how I would pronounce something that I probably don't pronounce like an english speaking person^^)
So the "I" would be "Ee" (like the "i" is pronounced in german) and the "ram" would be "rum" ("why is the rum always gone") because the "a" in german is pronounced more like the english "u" Title: Re: How do you pronounce "Iram"? Post by: Darth Calon on March 16, 2016, 05:44:05 PM I have always thought of it as "I-ram". The letter "I" followed by "ram", as in a battering ram. I've never thought of it being different. :)

Not in particular, I just wanted a different form of "Ira", and I felt "Ira" itself was a little too common. Title: Re: How do you pronounce "Iram"? Title: Re: How do you pronounce "Iram"? Post by: Rapine on March 22, 2016, 08:49:51 PM I was saying "eye-rum", but now I stand corrected.
Oh, and I AM CANADIAN, and at no point do I say "Doot", or "Aboot". In fact, I only pronounce a long o sound when it's needed; as in "Roof". ;D :P ::) Title: Re: How do you pronounce "Iram"?
