Differences between UltraEdge and Standard blades

  I wanted to start this thread, because now that I own an UltraEdge and a standard blade, I am torn between the two. I like the UltraEdge for the fact that the light comes out all the way to the edge of the blade, making it full & thick. However, in my opinion, the color from the LEDs is given a somewhat pastel look. On the other hand, the color in the standard blades looks great, but the standard blades don't have the nice full blade. So now I feel that when it comes time to order again, I'm going to be indecisive about which blade to get! If only there could be a blade that incorporates both these great qualities! Maybe in time.....

  I didn't start this thread just for me! I thought this would be a good place to discuss the different blades, and maybe help new customers decide on which blade they want!

  Everyone feel free to express their opinions on this subject!! (and not just about the looks of the blades either)

I feel the EXACT same way.  My last order I spent forever deliberating whether to get a regular heavy grade or ultraedge heavy grade, since they both have their merits.  I have both as well, and the color is indeed different between the two... I might take some pics later and post them here if you don't mind, in order to show the difference between the two blades.

I have yet to see a standard blade in person.  It sounds like most agree that orange is one of the colors that looks better in standard, but I can't complain about my UE blades. 

I think I'm going to use some reward points to buy a standard for my Pyrestone Raven when it arrives to check it out.  I just really like the fact that you can't see imperfections, scuffs, gouges, etc. from sparring plus I like the fuller, fatter look to the blade.

I will say though, in any amount of light it starts to make my sabers a little "peachy".  I'm kind of dreading this because, if I do like standard better, I'm going to have to get some 32"s for my prophecies as well!

Personally, I think all the colors look better in a standard blade. It's nice having an RGB saber to view all the colors in person!

If I end up getting the Liberator staff I ordered I'll probably post a review, I got Fire Orange with the regular heavy grade 32" blades.  That should give you a good idea of what the non-ultraedge blades look like.

We'll have to see what happens with this restructuring tho :/

Tonight, I'm gonna try and take pictures of my Raven with the different colors using both blades. I will put these in the first post.  Hopefully, this will illustrate the differences between the blades

Edit: I'm having trouble getting pictures that make the blade look like it does in person. I might have to enlist my aunt with her good photography skills to accomplish this.

Awesome! (to both of you)  I've seen some decent comparisons (more never hurts) but I think it's one of those things you just have to see in person to decide on.  I probably will be split even then on this! 

And yeah, I'm bummed that my raven, an LED swap on my SI, and a battery pack repair for a friend's dark liberator may take a while due to the reorganization.  It will be worth it though and I'm sure we'll all be better in the long run.

Yeah, really it is something you have to see in person. Photos can make the blades look different in so many ways. It makes me want to put a disclaimer for this in my reviews! 

And I think we're definitely gonna be better off in the long run, in many ways!!

It's okay, I was just pointing it out is all. Even if I did have a problem with it, there really isn't a lot I could do. lol.

Anywho, I've never really noticed the pastel look in anything but the green with UE. Maybe it's just me.

My bad, maybe I shouldn't say pastel. I just mean that the color gets washed out more from the opaque UE blade (it still looks good though!). To me, the colors aren't as "sharp" as in the standard blades. I guess everything is open to interpretation or opinion....I try to look at things as objectively as possible.
