My 24" UE heavy-grade weighs 181 grams (about 6.4 ounces).

I'm getting ready to purchase my first UltraSaber, the Emerald Chosen One. Even after reading this thread, I'm still having trouble deciding between the ultraedge and midgrade.

I am planning on getting the option to change to any available color, but will mostly be using consular green, blazing red, and guardian blue. I don't plan to do much dueling, besides just playing around with the saber and keeping it displayed.

What would you recommend?

Thanks!

It depends on if you want the "tube effect" with the standard blade or a full blade with the UE, clear tubing or white tubing. I personally prefer the UE blade because the color fills the blade and looks better IMO. People say that the standard blade gives more of a classic look like that from the original star wars trilogy, and the UE gives a look similar to that of the new trilogy.

If you're going to display it live and not really use it in combat, then I would suggest a 36" midgrade. The Ultraedge is my preference only if video or photography is the main medium where I think UE really fills out the blade for the camera. I love how MG/HG in non-UE look in person, though, as there is a shimmer or something to the light in the blade from the diffuser film, and it just looks amazing in person. I had to get both to accommodate the fact that I'd be filming and training with my sabers.

Thanks for the feedback guys! At this point, it looks like I can't go wrong with whichever blade type I choose. I think I'll buy one of each, lol! Start with the midgrade, and add an ultraedge.

I would say midgrade for in-person, and UE midgrade if you'll be taking pictures. The midgrades are the brightest blades offered by Ultrasabers.

I agree with E to a point.  Guardian Blue looks best in Midgrade also during daylight hours.  At nighttime, UE is best.  If it is your very first blade, purchase the Midgrade.  I have yet to hear a person complain about Midgrade being bad for a first purchase.

Either regular blades for Arctic Blue for sure. You wont be disappointed at all. =] I'll try to get some pics of a regular Mid Grade blade with my Arctic Blue up sometime.

I'm just a little confused...
In the product description it is said, that UE are the brightest blades. Now many people say, MG are the brightest...
Just got an Adegan Silver LED with a UE blade. When inserting the color disks, there's sometimes a significant loss of brightness (especially with blue and purple colors). Has anyone got experience with MG-Blades and the Adegan silver?
Which blade would you recommend for blue and purple colors?
Thanks in advance!

It is the blue disk.  It does not yield a good blue color when using AS.  The disks filter light therefore dimming the brightness of the blade.  Sometimes a little, sometime a lot.  The best disk to use with AS is Yellow.  There are many forums that attest to getting the best yellow is by using AS with a yellow disk or Lee Filter.

Now my general rule is this:  If it uses the color Red in any way, don't go Ultra Edge.  Blue, Green, White and any combination of the LED colors will do fine in Ultraedge.

When it comes to filters or disks, you might want to think about using the clear polycarbonate found on Midgrade blades.

so under your midgrade blade opinion what midgrade is it about. Ultra edge mid or standard mid?

What blade washes out more during brighter indoor lighting conditions? a midgrade ultraeds or regular midgrade blade?
