So today:
Got my daughter off to school, went back to sleep.
Woke up to the sound of the smoke detector. Damn kids burning things in the kitchen.... NOPE. Leave the bedroom to A LOT of smoke. Go downstairs to find flames shooting across the stairs to the basement and A LOT MORE smoke. Run back upstairs and drag my stepson out of bed, send him downstairs and out the front door. Go back upstairs, grab his best friend who is staying with us out of the shower and send him downstairs and out front door. Go back upstairs and into our bedroom screaming at my wife we have to get out of the house through A WHOLE ZARKING DEATH STAR PRODUCING amount of smoke. Turn to the bedroom door to discover, thought the haze of MORE smoke, that there are flames shooting out the air return across the hallway, blocking that way out. Close said bedroom door. Drag wife through MORE SMOKE THAN IS POSSIBLE TO EXIST IN ALL OF EXISTENCE to window at front of house. Push wife through window onto roof of garage, throwing wife's laptop out window into snow (it has her thesis on it, priorities you know), also confirming that both boys are outside in front of house. Help wife down garage roof slope to ladder from neighbor, go out window self, slide down roof, climb down ladder (did I mention it's about 20 degrees out with 6" of snow, and I'm wearing a bathrobe AND NOTHING ELSE).
Go to hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation (don't know how that could have happened, except there was enough smoke compressed into our house to create a new planet the size of Jupiter and I was running around in it) and carbon monoxide exposure. Spend about four hours there.
Eventually find out that four of our five cats are safe and alive. The fifth is still missing....
Check into extended stay hotel and eventually get back to house to see just how bad it is. Could be a lot worse, but won't be liveable for 4-6 moths. Not a ton of fire damage, but lots of smoke and water damage.
But the entire family is safe, and most likely the missing cat got out of the house (the other four were found alive in the house). So, all things considered, it could have been so much worse.
One last note, all of my UltraSabers are still in perfect working order.

Thank the Force that you and yours are alright!! I really hope you find your missing kitty, too. MAN. I can't even imagine what a giant cluster of what-the-FFFF--- this must have been for you and yours. So happy to hear that everyone is okay.

Holy crap! I'm glad you are all safe! In other news: My ten yr old nephew is playing beggars canyon training mission on SW battlefront. I just laughed so hard- he's like they are difficult to kill (referring to chasing down the TIE fighters)... they made it look so easy in the movie! Kids are adorable |
