Not much of a little dog person myself. I've always had Labs and most dogs I've had good relations with were larger dogs. Growing up, my best friend had a Malamute and she was a great dog (was also a giant to me at the time but she was always so nice to us kids).

Same here. I had two Rottweilers that were siblings. They were easy to train and when I had my knee surgery, they knew something was going on and was really careful around me. They learned to fetch me my cane after 15 minutes. Really good and smart dogs

Oooooo, very nice
Even the nose-bleed seats weren't that bad of a view. They just really sucked for someone with long legs and knee issues.

Your use of the word "pacify" in this context was a bit confusing.
How so?

For the record, I do not like little dogs, at all. I don't see the point. Not just toy dogs like this Shihitzu, even terriers, beagles, etc. I've always been a big dog kinda girl, likely because I grew up with them. We had a couple Labs when I was younger, a mutt when I was REALLY young that I think had some size, not sure(she was a giant to me, but she died before I was ten, I think). Most of my memories are of the Labs, and our Border Collie who's the current pet. Actually he and his sister were the smallest I remember, and I still wish Scooter was bigger.
Beagles and terriers are working breeds, specifically hunting, which is why they are so high energy. It allows them to keep the chase up longer than their quarry has wind to evade.

And technically, even the shih tzu is a working class. If my dog history is accurate, it was originally bred to sit at the feet of the emperor of China and keep his feet warm. Hence the ridiculous show cut.

I'm also dead set on a Husky or Malamute, since I've wanted on for a long time.
For the of all the decent in this world, do NOT get a sled dog if you don't have a minimum of 8 months of cold weather. Otherwise that's animal cruelty.

I hate to say it because I love all animals, but I could never personally have a little dog. Nothing to do with their temperament or anything. I had a Border Collie Australian Shepard mix once. I've never met such a smart dog. Only dog I ever had. He was my step dads (technically) so the dog left with him when I was 11. I still miss that dog. I was his boy. And he wouldn't let anything happen to me. And yet he would only bark if someone he didn't know entered our home. I don't blame you for wanting a Husky either. Great dogs.
That's because the border collie is the most intelligent of all domesticated dog breeds.

I figure most people aren't going to target the girl with the Husky running next to her. And if they do, they're stupid.
If you really want a "don't-#$%@-with-me-or-else" breed, I suggest getting a rotty. I think all those dumb enough to tangle with a rotty deserve to be culled from the population.

Really good and smart dogs
Also this.

Also this.

1) I was talking about the dog being aggressive, so not sure how they can be passified if they're aggressive.
2) I know that. The energy level isn't my issue, I'm not a fan of the look. Same reason I don't like any kind of "Bull" breed. That and drool.
3) Thankfully, Frankie does not have that show cut. She's got her hair cut short.
4) I live in PA, by October it's cold. Not to mention everything I've read says they'll be fine as long as you make sure they have plenty of water. And the dog will be in an air conditioned building for a good portion of the day.
5) Scooter must be the exception. Although he is an Aussie Cattle Dog mix.... but that's another intelligent breed.
6) I'm likely moving into an apartment when I get on my feet. Most apartments have breed restrictions against those. Heck a lot won't even allow huskies.

1) People have a tendency to be dumbasses and pick them up in order to remove them from the situation instead of correcting the bad behavior. By not being confronted on what is being done wrong, the dog never learns, but the human thinks that as long as the dog is no longer barking and growling the situation is defused. WRONG!
2) You are referring to mastiff breeds. Drool depends on the specific breed. Plus mastiff breeds generally have the harder bite, making them more of a dissuasion.
4) Good. I have a dumbass cousin that lives in Arkansas that has two huskies because he's in love with the breed. I'm in love with beagles, but I won't have one because my lifestyle is not active enough to exercise the dog properly.
5) I didn't say they were the only smart dog breed, just the most intelligent.
6) Yeah. You could raise a stink about discrimination and get the SJWs to work for you. Tongue

1) Frankie absolutely hates being picked up. She's adopted, from Florida(hates the cold), and we believe was abused, the poor thing. So I forgive some of her behavior, because it's not her fault. Unfortunately when you adopt older dogs, you inherit many of the previous owners bad training......
2) Anything with that weird scrunchy nose... It's not cute to me. A family friend has a pug. Got to be the ugliest little thing ever.
4) THAT is dumb. Seriously dumb.
5) I know. I was just pointing out that mine is on the lower end of the breed standard... though still more intelligent than many other dogs I've met.
6) I would fora Husky, Mute, or German Sheppard. Not interested enough in a Rotty to go through the trouble.

One of the shelters here has a young(less than a year) Sheppard named Rex.... if I was able to adopt now, I'd have found my dog. Sad They have a white Husky too that I'd be bringing home also.

No need to cross out the stupid, being stupid often goes hand and hand with being food.  Grin

I generally prefer the smaller dogs, terriers and such, not the toys. Big dogs are nice and many have great personalities but they are just too much work. Also if they are couch or bed dogs you need a full couch and an extra mattress added to the king so you have some room.

I only crossed the stupid off to show I was correcting the sentence but all things considered I guess I could've said "Stupid food"  Grin

Big dogs can be a lot of work but their personalities and wits do make if worth it if you have the will and the means. I've been kicked out of the couch by my parent's Lab more often than I care to count  Grin It's not that he doesn't want me there. Actually he loves having some to cuddle with but he tends to expand and at some point you just fall off.

Same here. I had two Rottweilers that were siblings. They were easy to train and when I had my knee surgery, they knew something was going on and was really careful around me. They learned to fetch me my cane after 15 minutes. Really good and smart dogs

Rottweilers can be great dogs. I personally like the way they look. But too many people have taken these dogs and didn't train them properly. In the end they suffer from a somewhat bad reputation because of it.

If you really want a "don't-#$%@-with-me-or-else" breed, I suggest getting a rotty. I think all those dumb enough to tangle with a rotty deserve to be culled from the population.

Agreed

I remember a woman in my parent's town. She had adopted a young small dog that had been abused. At first the poor thing was afraid of every human or dog she encountered. It took my parent's Lab about 15 minutes to become her best friend. Some Labs really have a way to make everyone love them.  Grin

I have to agree. They can also be some of the most lovable dogs ever though, but they will tear #@*% up if needed. Too many people don't seem to realize you can train them to be lovable and still be ferocious protectors when needed.

I agree with you, Crue. Mine were loved and taken care of until the day they died. They were living and caring unless you came into the house without being introduced.  They absolutely loved kids and babies that they would play with them and drag other people away. Lol

Thanks guys, it’s hard to talk about my Rottweilers since other people have negative opinions about them
