First off all this modification will definitely void your Ultra Sabers warranty.  Grin

I got a Phantasm staff recently and was really impressed with how it handled as two separate sabers (basically two Aeon sabers).   I decided to make it a project to add sound to one or both of them.   Now these are v2 Aeons not the newer v3 so they weren't designed to have sound.  The inner diameter is only about 1 1/4 inches so its pretty tight but its a long hilt and there seemed to be enough room between the switch and battery holder to fit a small soundboard and sensors.

I did some research and found that the soundboard in the 2010 Hasbro Clone Wars toys would be a good fit.  I bought the Obi Wan model and took out the board.  I have a separate post on how I did it in the technical section:

Following the "Basic Setup" wiring schematics that are posted in the TCCS forums (2010 Electronic Lightsaber w/ DVD thread in the cutaway views section) I was able to wire it up to the Aeon LED and battery pack with the help of a transistor.

Here is the result:

I'm still not 100% happy with the sound.  The volume in particular is a bit low.  About on par with the old quieter Hasbro FFX.  I have been trying to find a good speaker.  I tried several 8ohm speakers but all were pretty weak sounding.   The one I have installed now does all the sounds except for the idle hum clearly.  The pommel that comes with the Aeon is also solid so I had to take it to a machinist to bore a nice big hole.   I also had him make a coupler with holes so that I can still use it as a Phantasm Staff.

Wow! Nicely done! Is it me or does it have a 'flash on clash' effect?

Thanks!  Yup the hasbro sound board has FOC.   Since the transistor is triggered by the LED output of the soundboard the Ultra Sabers LED module flashes too. If you leave it alone for around 10 seconds without moving it the saber will also make a crackling sound and flicker. There is also a very subtle flicker while idle   Grin

You can wire it without FOC too if you prefer it that way.

It's AS with the two yellow discs that US provides.  Smiley

Gotcha!

It looked a little too unique to be SY. By the way, have you installed any Ultimate FX boards in your sabers?
