Also, the second part (if the first part isn't too painful) will probably be named something along the lines of Mare Do Well Rises (pissing people off is fun and Manehattan will need a hero).
Oh yeah, there's a MLP discussion.
I like MLP:FiM but I'd have to say I am most definitely not a fan of the costuming and the plethora of fanfictions and I wouldn't really call myself a brony although I don't have any problems with them... yet.
I enjoy the custom videos on YT like the YTP's, music videos, anthologies / best of..., and pretty much everything else, but other than watching the show purely for adding a bit of positivity into a stressful day, and the undeniable fact it's just a really cute show with funny jokes and excellent dialogue, I'm not as supportive of the die-hard fanbase as I'd imagine.
I'd have to say my support of the fandom is pretty much the same as the furry fandom. I like the art and stories purely for finding fantasy / sci-fi-oriented art, like were-wolves or shape-shifting, but a lot of the works of art and stories [too much actually] is devoted purely to the adult-spectrum, and unfortunately, there really isn't a clear separation from the two, and I just refuse accept that.
I fear that MLP may turn into the same thing.
MLP turned into that a long time ago. Cloppers have always been among us. It's extremely easy to avoid it, though. It actually takes effort to come across it. It won't be getting any worse and it may actually get better soon - it seems that a lot of bronies are already jumping ship because of Princess Twilight, and it's inevitable that some of them are... that kind.
I got into the show during my Winter Break from college [we get like 5 weeks, so I had some time] and for a while I was trying to decide on a favorite pony, but I pretty much like them all, well, except for Rarity that is, because I find the message for her is like "it's okay to act whiny and manipulative as that is just you who are as a living being, and all of our individual character personalities are good... except for being chaotic".
Still, her mane is pretty and her coat is cute, so she's not all bad.
Pretty much... Element of Generosity, begs for anything that is even slightly shiny. However - AJ lies, Pinkie doesn't even need to be Discord-ed to completely contradict her Element, RD isn't very loyal, Twilight isn't actually made of magic and her most powerful spells are plot devices (anti-gravity, gravity reversal, etcetera), and Fluttershy isn't that kind (anybody else notice how manipulative she was in Just for Sidekicks?).
I definitely like Pinkie Pie the absolute most for her songs and randomness, but, as you can tell by the avatar, there's just something so appealing about Twilight Sparkle, especially when she goes kooky-crazy.

In the end, MLP I have found is a another form of escapism and should be regulated and maintained like the others. I find this difficult as it's a very good show with a wonderful positive over-tone so the lines get blurred in my head between escapism, obsession, "it's okay because it's positive, and staying focused. I think I've re-watched the entire series maybe 3 times now.
TL,DR version: I like MLP, but I'm not obsessed with it.
Anyway, welcome to the discussion
