You are completely wrong about the Japanese word for "haze". That word, I am assuming you pulled off of some sort of online google search. The Japanese have several different terms for the word "haze", and depending on the time of year or situation the word changes. Here is a much better resource, which I have used for many of my own Japanese cultural/language studies.

Thanks for the resource, and the warning so far. Japanese is a language that I wish to learn myself, but it's hard not having someone to actively take me through it and just working from an instructional CD.

I like the face piece idea and maybe a small chest piece would be a nice addition.

How about a dark grey cloak to top it off? Grey is very inconspicuous (more so than black or red) and then when you flip the cloak off, your victim sees just a flash of the menace underneath before you disappear!!

Whatever you chose, I am sure it will be great. You certain have made great choices so far.

As it happens, that's what I use - the dark grey cloak inspired by Luke's ensemble in ROTJ.  I got mine from Twin Roses, if you're interested.

This is an awesome costume, although it's jarring after seeing you in dark, flowing Palpatine-style robes for so long!

The robes are still around, as is Arkanus. (He's harder to get rid of than a spectral blood stain on a Scottish hearth rug! lol)

I just fancied trying a different "look" just to see if I could pull it off.

I do love the quality of twin roses stuff, but I'm very scared of the costs involved!

I might be a bit behind with name suggestions, but someone mentioned a scorpion? Using that [new] resource from Kitsune, I was looking at some of the translations for "scorpion" and the ones to catch my eyes that sound pretty awesome are:
• Sasori {sa-sori} - lit. scorpion
• Okoze {o-kozay} - stingfish, scorpionfish, stonefish (all of witch are pretty nasty animals: intense pain; insect that kills fish; highly venomous)
• Sasoriza {sa-sor-iza} - Scorpio (constilation)
• Dakatsu {da-ka-tsu} - serpent or scorpion; also, detestation


I checked out that Twin Roses site and, man, they do an excellent job there; very upscale for the heavy wallet

Actually, I just looked up "Dragon" (which I knew to basically be Ryu or Ryuu with variations) and Garyuu came up, Dragon's Fang. The irony being that this is my first name, with two u's stuck on the end! lol

Hattori Hanzo (Iga ninja retained to Tokugawa Ieyasu in the Samurai Warriors series)
Fuma Kotaro (retained to the Hojo clan also in the Samurai Warriors series)
Ryu Hayabasu (Ninja Gaiden)

If I may, you could also use the word kage. It's Japanese for shadow. IMO Darth Kage (which I bealive is pronounced "k-ah-gee" but I'm not quite sure), sounds awesome.

I'm not sure it's all about having two names, per se, as all of us (or at least most people from western culture) will have a first name and a family name. Traditional Japanese culture opposes an ego-centric disposition (there's a sociological disorder found in Japan found nowhere else in the world; i think its called anthropophobia, really interesting read on W'pedia), and so it is more about honouring the family name and being of something greater than one's self, i.e. you are but a part of the family and the honour you bring, you bring to all of us. So going by that logic, if you're a Sith, that "family" would be the Darth title - or the name of the [empire] which you serve.

Going off your sabre-tooth tiger idea: what about being Darth Ken Shiko, that way you have a normal name (for the SW universe - Ken, or you could spell it Khen) and when you say it as a whole you've got the kenshiko in there, plus you've got the two names you wanted. SO what we end up with is a normal name for casual RP discussion but also a dramatic aggressive persona when you go into battle (Ken Shiko)!

OR, get this; you're Garyuu Khen, Sith correspondent from the front lines reporting the war effort to the Empire's Holonet, but that is only a cover(!) you're actual identity is Darth Khenshiko (w or w/o the 'h' and one or two words), master infiltrator/assassin/reconnaissance!

This is very true, but it is diminishing greatly in the new culture. It started to diminish back in the Meiji era as Japan started to be more open-minded about allowing Western culture into itself, and with the new generation of people coming up, tradition is starting to break away.

OK, so i've been giving this a lot of thought, and I also want to add a spiritual element to the name, so there would be a full, "Classical" version of the name, and then several ways to "shorthand" it.

I've come up with the following;

Ryuujin no Kenshiko (Saber Tooth of the Dragon King)

Ryuujin no Koji (Tigercub of the Dragon King)

There are a number of ways to short hand the character's name; "Ryuujin", "Kenshiko", "Koji" (depending on the version chosen)
