Mhm, i've considered the kendo mask myself, but it's expensive as anything in this part of the country if you want anything reasonably new. You can be looking 35 for a decent three-weapon fencing mask, and i've seen kendo masks go for nearer 240, so i figured a fencing mask for sparring and an airsoft mask for costuming purposes.
To get a little back to topic, i can see the crossguard helping in the bind, but i can also see it making a considerable difference against those opponents who prefer disarming strikes, it's surprising how often the cross on a longsword catches those awkward little strikes that go lower than you expect

I got an air soft mask as well. It looks sick, but it's based on an existing non-SW design. As far as the "bogu" set, I believe it's called, is the mask (includes the shoulders), chest plate, and gloves. They are pricy, but considering you can beat the hell out of them? |

This is true, but i've found a fencing mask to be plenty strong enough for longsword or sword and buckler, i've yet to find anyone who hits harder with a lightsaber  The gloves would definitely be worth having, although again i'll probably use the same ones for sparring as i do for longsword, slightly modified lacrosse gloves. |

Somewhere around the middle to end of February is the current estimate for release/end of pre-order.
I have to say I'm SUPER Excited to get a Flamberge! I pre-ordered a little while ago and I just wanted to ask will you guys be sending out an email update; to those who have pre-ordered the Flamberge, to let us know when we can expect our sabers? Oh no. Not Q. He's already got a Menace Staff, and bought me a saber, well after the pre-order opened up. At the longest, he'd have waited maybe 2 days from the announcement to place his pre-order. |
