One of the things I wanna do with my sabers is to convert one into a Lightfoil. Of course it will not technically be a foil (I can not even imagine how you can do a foil from the lightsaber) but who am I to argue with a Mecrosa Order?
I will document my project here to get a feedback, help myself to stay on it and maybe even help someone who has the same idea but still hesitates to start.
I started with a quick-n-dirty foamcore prototype of future guard, mainly to test a concept and look whether it will be comfortable to hold a saber with a guard attached or not. It turned out that it handles perfectly fine. Of course test cuts have immediately shown some design flaws (curved quills should be bent in the opposite direction to not interfere with a palm) but this is what prototypes for.
The next step will be to make another prototype for more sturdy material and test in the field in a duel. I hope to make it not later than next week.
