Ever wonder what Game of Thrones would be like if it were made in 1995?

Fairly sure that's 1980's.  Sounds like a DX7 synthesizer being played there. Wink

NEEEEEERD!!!! (Actually, if memory serves, that's a nifty side effect of your synesthesia...)

Jev, it also helps that I was born in the early 80's, so that's also the sound of nostalgia. Cheesy

The DX7 for your listening pleasure.  It, and the Fairlight CMI*, are responsible for a lot of the cold, creepy sounds you remember from 80's synthesizer music when done right.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9KReAQy5V0" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9KReAQy5V0</a>

Know who else made use of this?  Anyone here play Bejeweled 1 or 2?  Yep, the guy that made that soundtrack clearly used a vintage DX7 for that 80's sound. Cheesy

*You probably know the sound of the Fairlight CMI from Peter Gabriel.  This is a prime example right here..."The Family and the Fishing Net"

When it comes to creepy, otherworldly sounding instruments, it's tough to beat the theremin...

You may recognize the theremin from the 1951 classic movie The Day the Earth Stood Still.

An original composition:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3lq6U4PDZo" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3lq6U4PDZo</a>

Of course, the theremin can also be quite beautiful as well...

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6KbEnGnymk" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6KbEnGnymk</a>

Of note: Invented in 1920 as a side effect of Soviet research into proximity detectors for the military, the theremin was one of the first electronic musical instruments and the only instrument played without touching the machine at all.

Yep, takes you back to the days of the Twilight Zone!

Radiohead's also used the theremin as well, for a modern example. Smiley

Groupon is amazing! Because, not only am I finally getting an Xbox One, but now we don't have to shell out extra danero for a blu-ray player.  Cool
